Wynyard Quarter is two different places depending on when you show up.

Wynyard Quarter is two different places depending on when you show up.
Weekdays, it’s suits and laptops. People on lunch breaks trying to eat something decent in 45 minutes. Weekends, it’s families, harbour walks, and kids on bikes.
Both versions of Wynyard have the same problem. A lot of the food options are fine. Not bad. Just fine. Here’s where to go when you actually want to eat something worth sitting down for.
Fat Puku’s is at 12 Jellicoe Street, tucked down the alley off the main strip. Open from 11:30am Tuesday through Friday for lunch.
Full table service. Smash burgers cooked to order on the griddle. Skinnies on the side. The whole thing takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
The Fat Puku’s burger is $16.90. The Bernie Mac is $20.90. If you’re after something bigger, the Big Poppa is $22.90 with double patties, bacon bits smashed in, smoky cheese, house-made ranch, jalapeños, and cream cheese.
Walk-ins are always welcome. For groups of four or more, booking ahead saves you the wait.
Wynyard hosts a lot of events. SailGP. Concerts. Summer festivals. The ASB Classic. If you’ve got tickets to something in the area, the question is always where to eat beforehand.
Fat Puku’s Wynyard is open for dinner Thursday through Sunday. Full bar. Boozy shakes. Walk in, sit down, eat properly. Then go.
It’s a 5-minute walk from the main event spaces around Silo Park and Wynyard Wharf. Close enough that you’re not rushing. Far enough that you’re not stuck in event-crowd pricing.
Fat Puku’s isn’t a cafe, so we’ll be straight about this one.
For coffee, Goodness Gracious isn’t far away. Solid flat white, quick service, and you’re not dealing with a 15-minute queue.
If you’re after dessert after your burger, Fat Puku’s does Dessert Skinnies. Fries, ice cream, chocolate sauce, butterscotch whipped cream. $11.90. That’s a full sentence.
One of the genuinely good things about eating at Wynyard is what happens after. The harbour walk runs from Wynyard Wharf down toward the Viaduct and out to Westhaven Marina.
It’s flat. It’s wide. It’s free. And it’s one of those Auckland things that people who live here still forget about.
If you’ve got kids, the playground at Silo Park is right there. If you don’t, the walk itself is enough reason to come to this end of town.
Parking is easy during the week. Daldy Street car park is a couple of minutes away. Weekend parking fills up faster around event times, but it’s still easier than the CBD.
The Jellicoe Street alley can be easy to miss if you haven’t been before. Look for the signage between the buildings. Once you find it, you’re there.
Tuesday through Friday: lunch from 11:30am.
Thursday through Sunday: dinner.
Walk-ins always welcome. Book for groups of 4+.
We’re closed Mondays. If you’re planning a Monday lunch at Wynyard, that’s not us. Plan around it.
